Slovak PM Robert Fico rejects same‑sex marriage registration and denies coalition membership

Prime Minister Robert Fico said Slovakia’s constitution defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, stating that civil registries cannot record same‑sex marriages even when such unions were performed abroad. He added that the General Prosecutor merely asked the registry to make a decision and did not pressure the Interior Ministry to register these marriages.

Fico also reiterated that Slovakia is not a member of the so‑called “Coalition of the Willing” that supports Ukraine militarily, calling media reports of Slovak membership a "media duckling". He said he has asked the French ambassador to reject the claims circulating in Slovak media.
