Slovakia: Train driver charged in collision and major police retail inspections

Slovak authorities have concluded investigations into several significant incidents. A 34-year-old train driver has been charged with general endangerment following a collision near Jablonov nad Turňou. Investigators determined the driver failed to monitor signals and respect speed restrictions, allegedly watching YouTube during the journey. The accident, which occurred in October 2025, involved two trains and resulted in nearly 100 injuries.

Separately, the Slovak Police conducted a large-scale prevention and security operation titled ‘PBA50’. Over 500 officers inspected more than 1,600 retail outlets and 231 private security services across the country. The operation identified 102 instances of illegal activity, 10 shoplifting offenses, and one criminal act, resulting in one arrest and approximately 941 euros in damages.
