Slovak police detain mayor and driver for drunk‑driving offenses

Police in the Slovak region of Orava detained 41‑year‑old Tatiana Červeňová, the mayor of Malatiná, after she refused a mandatory breath test following the Bačovské Dni festival. She was held on suspicion of driving under the influence and later released on the prosecutor’s order without formal charges.

In a separate incident in Dražovciach, Nitra district, a 40‑year‑old man who fled police was involved in a collision that sent both vehicles into a drainage canal. A breath test showed 1.65 ‰ alcohol; one police officer was injured and required sick leave. The driver faces a charge of endangering traffic under the influence of a narcotic substance.
