Slovak regional elections: Candidates shift in Žilina and Košice
In the Žilina Self-Governing Region, SNS Member of Parliament Adam Lučanský has withdrawn his candidacy for regional governor. Lučanský announced his decision on television, stating he supports Igor Choma (Smer-SD) as the candidate with the best chance of winning. He expressed a desire to avoid the formation of fragmented political groups in the region.
Polling data from AKO indicates that current governor Erika Jurinová leads with 48.5 percent support, followed by Igor Choma at 17.3 percent and Anna Belousovová at 14.3 percent. Lučanský previously held 6.2 percent in the polls.
In the Košice Self-Governing Region, Hlas-SD candidate Igor Šimko is campaigning on regional development and economic stability. Šimko, an energy expert, has secured support from several political entities, including the Republika movement, Smer-SD, and SNS. He emphasized the need for unified regional progress and discussed potential measures such as capping fuel margins to manage costs.
