Slovak regulator reports cheapest mobile rates from 4ka and O2, plans free smart‑meter rollout

The Slovak Regulatory Office for Electronic Communications released a price comparison for mobile operators covering the second quarter. In twelve categories, the lowest‑priced packages were offered exclusively by low‑cost brands 4ka and O2, along with their affiliated brands such as Tesco mobile. 4ka led on small data bundles, Tesco mobile performed well on larger volumes, and O2 and 4ka often shared the top spots for combined voice‑and‑data plans. The regulator noted the analysis only reflects price, not service quality, coverage, speed, roaming or customer support.

In a separate initiative, the regulator indicated plans to expand intelligent electricity meters to all Slovak households free of charge. While the installation would be cost‑free for consumers, officials warned that the expenses could be reflected in network fees and electricity prices. The rollout will require legislative changes and a clear financial and technical plan to replace older IMS devices that rely on soon‑to‑be‑retired 2G networks.
