Slovak telecom operators O2 and 4ka push 5G coverage toward near‑universal reach
Slovak operator O2 reported that its 5G network now reaches 99.76 % of the population, covering virtually all cities, towns and many rural areas. The company highlighted a modest 1 % year‑on‑year rise in total active SIMs to 2.44 million, a 3 % increase in postpaid contracts, and a 5 % decline in prepaid services. M2M SIMs grew 4 % to 579 thousand, while optical‑fiber subscriptions jumped 51 % to 39 thousand connections.
O2 also launched the O2 Connect service, allowing shared data, minutes and SMS across devices. The price of an eSIM for Apple Watch was reduced from €5 to €4 per month, making cellular‑enabled smart‑watches more affordable.
Competing operator 4ka announced that its 5G footprint now covers 53.5 % of Slovaks, up from about 35 % at the start of 2025, and it aims to reach 59‑60 % by the end of 2026. The rollout added coverage in towns such as Bošany, Cífer, Medzilaborce and Zvolenská Slatina, and the company is densifying the network in major cities and high‑traffic locations to improve capacity.
Both operators’ expansions signal a rapid transition toward comprehensive high‑speed mobile connectivity across Slovakia.
