O2's Slovak market growth and 5G expansion

Overview

In early June 2026, O2 Group reported that its Slovak operations remained the country's largest mobile operator, with active SIM cards rising 1 % to 2.36 million and 5G coverage reaching 99.76 % of the population. Optical‑fiber connections grew 51 % year‑on‑year, streaming subscriptions increased 14 %, and the network earned several Opensignal quality awards. The company also launched a new Spark accessory line in the Czech Republic.

By the end of June, O2 confirmed its near‑universal 5G reach and posted further subscriber gains, with total active SIMs climbing to 2.44 million, postpaid contracts up 3 % and prepaid services down 5 %. M2M SIMs grew 4 % and fiber subscriptions maintained a 51 % increase. New services such as O2 Connect enabled shared data, minutes and SMS across devices, and the price of Apple Watch eSIMs fell from €5 to €4 per month. Competitor 4ka expanded its 5G footprint to 53.5 % of Slovaks, targeting 60 % by year‑end.

On 13 July 2026, Slovak Telekom was recognised by Ookla’s Speedtest as Slovakia’s top‑rated mobile network, receiving seven awards for mobile, 5G and gaming performance based on more than 4.3 million measurements. The operator highlighted an investment of over €170 million in network and 5G development the previous year and opened a private 5G standalone campus in Košice together with the Technical University and SOVA Digital. The testbed delivers sub‑10 ms latency, up to 1 Gbps speeds and capacity for up to one million devices per square kilometre, supporting trials in logistics, robotics and energy‑monitoring. These developments underline an accelerating competitive race to expand high‑speed mobile services across Slovakia.
