D3 Motorway Between Slovakia and Poland Closed Until Mid‑August
Slovak authorities announced that the D3 motorway segment linking Svrčinovec and Skalité will be completely closed from 23:00 on 12 July until 08:00 on 17 August. The shutdown covers the bridge at Čadečka and the Svrčinovec and Poľana tunnels, where anti‑skid surfacing, waterproofing and equipment upgrades will be carried out.
During the closure all traffic on the main carriageway will be halted. Drivers are directed to use detour routes: eastbound traffic will follow road I/11 through Svrčinovec‑Zátky, while westbound traffic will be rerouted onto road I/12 with a weight limit of 7.5 tonnes for trucks. Heavy‑goods vehicles are prohibited from using the I/12 corridor, and the Polish General Directorate of National Roads (GDDKiA) advises carriers to detour via Cieszyn. The measures are expected to increase congestion on secondary roads and lengthen travel times, especially during the summer holiday period, but aim to improve safety and reliability of the motorway after nine years of operation.
