Slovakia closes D3 highway segment at Zwardoń–Skalité border for a month

From 23:00 on 12 July until 08:00 on 17 August, the D3 motorway segment between Svrčinovec (Slovakia) and Skalité (Poland) will be fully closed for extensive maintenance. The works will overhaul the Svrčinovec and Poľana tunnels and replace bearings on the Čadečka bridge, as well as replace road markings and safety equipment.

All traffic will be diverted onto marked detour routes. Vehicles traveling from Čadca to Poland must use the first‑class road I/12 through Skalité, while traffic in the opposite direction will be routed via I/11. Heavy trucks over 7.5 tonnes are prohibited on the I/12 detour. Authorities warn of possible delays, especially during the summer holiday season, and advise drivers to check road information before departure.

The overhaul aims to improve road safety and reduce the need for repeated closures in the future, ensuring smoother cross‑border traffic once the works are completed.
