Slovakia digitalizes nine key life situations to reduce bureaucracy

Slovakia has reached a key milestone in its Recovery Plan by digitalizing nine common life situations to reduce bureaucracy. Ministers Erik Tomáš and Kamil Šaško announced 58 specific improvements aimed at simplifying interactions between citizens, businesses, and the state.

The digital services cover critical events including the birth of a child, retirement, illness, loss of employment, death, and inheritance proceedings. For example, a new electronic pregnancy book will allow doctors to record data digitally, enabling the Social Insurance Agency to automatically process maternity benefits without the need for manual applications.

A transitional period will allow the old and new systems to operate simultaneously until January 31, 2027, to ensure all medical and administrative staff are fully integrated into the new digital framework. While testing was completed by July 31, final confirmation from the European Commission is expected following an audit in October 2026.
