Slovakia election poll: Smer-SD leads narrowly over Progresívne Slovensko
A mid-August 2026 poll conducted by SANEP indicates a tight competition for the lead in Slovakia's parliamentary elections. Smer-SD remains the leading party with 19.2% of the vote, though it experienced a slight decrease of 0.4 percentage points compared to July. Progresívne Slovensko follows closely in second place with 18.5%, marking a 0.4 percentage point increase.
Republika holds third place with 12.2% support, up 0.6 points from the previous month. Other parties expected to cross the 5% threshold to enter parliament include Slovensko (8.5%), SaS (7.8%), Hlas-SD (6.9%), KDH (6.4%), and Demokrati (5.3%).
According to the model, Smer-SD would secure 34 seats, Progresívne Slovensko 33 seats, and Republika 22 seats. Parties such as SNS (4.6%), Aliancia – Szövetség (4.4%), and Sme rodina (3.5%) are projected to fall short of the required threshold. The survey, conducted between August 12 and 18 on a representative sample of 2,300 adults, noted that 14.3% of respondents were undecided and 17.8% stated they would not participate in the elections.
