Slovakia faces rising personal investment and startup relocation risks

Recent data highlights contrasting economic trends in Slovakia. An analysis by Portu and Ipsos reveals that 57.5% of Slovak adults aged 18 to 65 are investors. Investment volumes tend to increase with age; younger individuals often save for housing, while those over 50 focus on maintaining living standards during retirement. Notably, Slovak investors appear to save more on average than their Czech counterparts across various age groups.

Conversely, the Slovak startup ecosystem faces significant challenges. A survey of 183 startups and 41 investors indicates that approximately one-quarter of Slovak startups are considering relocating abroad. Key obstacles include difficulties in customer acquisition, limited access to financing, and a shortage of experienced personnel. While some companies like GymBeam have successfully secured large-scale funding, many smaller firms struggle to compete with corporations for technical talent and capital. Slovakia currently ranks 59th globally in the StartupBlink 2026 assessment.
