Slovakia infrastructure: R4 construction and highway repairs underway
The National Highway Company (NDS) is managing several major road infrastructure projects and maintenance works across Slovakia.
In the eastern part of the country, construction on the second stage of the R4 expressway near Prešov is progressing. This 10.2-kilometer project, which includes the 1.9-kilometer Okruhliak tunnel, aims to alleviate transit traffic in Prešov. The second tube of the Okruhliak tunnel is nearing breakthrough, and asphalt laying on certain sections is expected to be completed by the end of October. The project costs more than 337 million euros and is funded by the state budget and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
Simultaneously, NDS is launching road repairs starting September 14. Significant works will take place on the R1 expressway between Sereď and Trnava, where a five-kilometer slow lane will be renovated over approximately two weeks. Additional repairs are scheduled for the D1 motorway in the Spiš region and sections of the R1 near Zvolen, where a special emulsion micro-surface will be applied to extend the road's lifespan.
