Slovakia Introduces €3 Flat Customs Duty on Non‑EU Online Purchases from 2026

From 1 July 2026, Slovakia will apply a flat customs duty of €3 per item on parcels imported from countries outside the European Union. The duty applies to orders placed on Asian platforms such as Temu, Shein and AliExpress, as well as other overseas e‑shops that ship directly from a third country. The decisive factor is the date the customs declaration is accepted; any declaration received on or after 1 July 2026 triggers the new rule.

Three scenarios determine the duty: if the goods are located outside the EU at the time of order and dispatched directly from a third country, the €3 per‑item levy applies. If the goods have already been moved to a customs or temporary warehouse within the EU before the order, standard tariff rates apply instead. Finally, if the items are already in the seller’s EU warehouse and have been released into free circulation, the duty has already been paid and no additional charge is levied. Consumers are advised to check the origin and delivery method of products, as these factors now affect the final purchase price.
