Slovakia joins international call for safe navigation in Hormuz Strait

Slovakia has joined a declaration by 79 states and institutions calling for the restoration of safe and unhindered navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, led by Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár emphasized that the current situation in the Strait is “unbearable” and poses a threat to global energy security and international trade. The declaration condemns Iran and its allies, specifically the Houthis in Yemen, for conducting attacks that violate international law and maritime freedom.

The participating nations called for the immediate implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 and reaffirmed their support for the International Maritime Organization to ensure the Strait remains open for all vessels in accordance with international regulations.
