Slovakia launches EU-compliant e-invoicing infrastructure
Slovakia has successfully completed and tested the communication infrastructure for its new electronic invoicing system. This makes the country the first in the European Union to implement an e-reporting model built directly on the latest EU rules for VAT, known as the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package.
The system is designed to automate tax data reporting. When a supplier issues an e-invoice through an accounting program or application, a certified digital postman delivers the document to the recipient and simultaneously sends the required tax data to the Financial Administration. This automation aims to reduce paperwork, minimize manual errors, and lower the administrative burden for businesses.
According to the Financial Administration, domestic electronic invoicing will become mandatory on January 1, 2027, while cross-border transactions within the EU will follow on July 1, 2030. By 2030, certain tax reports, such as the VAT control and summary statements, are expected to be replaced by this automated data transfer.
