Slovakia launches pilot project for influenza vaccinations in pharmacies

Slovakia has initiated a pilot project to increase the accessibility of influenza vaccinations by allowing trained pharmacists to administer shots in pharmacies. The program is currently being rolled out in selected pharmacies across all eight regional cities, with initial pilot dates scheduled for Saturdays in October.

While current reservation slots for the pilot phase are fully booked, walk-ins may still be accommodated depending on vaccine availability and pharmacy capacity. Experts suggest that regular vaccination programs in pharmacies could become a standard by autumn 2027. This initiative aims to improve healthcare accessibility, following models used in several other European countries. There is also potential for the program to expand to include other types of vaccinations in the future.

In preparation for the upcoming flu season, health experts also recommend that households maintain essential supplies, such as thermometers, hygiene products, and basic fever-reducing medications, to manage symptoms effectively.
