Slovakia pharmacy vaccination initiatives
Overview
To address respiratory health concerns and low influenza vaccination rates, Slovakia has introduced measures to increase vaccine accessibility. Health officials initially highlighted risks from waning immunity and the potential underestimation of illnesses like whooping cough.
In response, the Ministry of Health established a certification program to allow pharmacists to administer vaccines. A pilot project has since been launched in selected pharmacies across eight regional cities, with initial services scheduled for Saturdays in October. While current reservation slots for the pilot are fully booked, the program aims to potentially become a standard by autumn 2027 and may expand to include other types of vaccinations.
