Slovakia road infrastructure: Handlová modernization and D3 tunnel reopening
Major road infrastructure projects and maintenance works are underway or concluding across Slovakia.
In Handlová, the Slovak Road Administration (SSC) is beginning a six-week modernization of a 1.2-kilometer section of the I/9 road. The project, costing 1,427,000 euros and executed by Metrostav DS, aims to improve safety and comfort by repairing pavement depressions and unevenness. During this period, traffic will be managed by regulators in alternating single lanes, and motorists are advised to use local detours.
Meanwhile, the National Highway Company (NDS) has reopened the Svrčinovec and Poľana tunnels on the D3 highway following more than 50 days of maintenance. The works included restoring anti-skid properties, impregnating the roadway, cleaning the tunnels, and servicing technological equipment. Additional maintenance was performed on the Čadečka bridge, though some work on bridge bearings is scheduled for completion during a shorter closure this autumn.
