Slovakia sees lifestyle and financial shifts as urbanization and rising costs pressure young people

Urbanisation in Slovakia is changing traditional hunting practices. As more of the population moves to cities, hunters must travel farther to reach shooting grounds and rely on digital tools and transport to maintain their activities. The shift requires additional planning, time and resources, turning what was once a routine rural pastime into a more scheduled urban‑driven activity, according to hunting expert Ján Krnáč.

A separate survey by Intesa Sanpaolo’s VÚB bank shows Generation Z in Slovakia facing significant financial strain. Almost one‑fifth of young Slovaks still live with parents due to unaffordable housing, while half report financial stress related to rising living costs, health‑care concerns and unemployment. The study highlights a cautious spending attitude, low savings rates and a desire for banking support in housing, car purchases and entrepreneurship. Economist Michal Lehutá stresses the need for improved education, innovation and affordable public services to retain young talent.
