Slovakia summer outdoor tips: DIY wasp trap and early mushroom foraging
A simple, chemical‑free wasp and hornet trap can be made in five minutes using a 1.5‑ or 2‑litre plastic bottle, a cut‑off bottle neck, string and an attractant such as sweet syrup or beer. The insects enter through the narrowed neck, become trapped by the inverted funnel and eventually drown, while bees are spared by using a sour or fermenting bait that repels them.
Mushroom hunters in Slovakia can begin collecting edible fungi already in summer when soils are moist and temperatures are moderate. Species such as boletus, parasol, and other common edible mushrooms appear after adequate rainfall, especially in shaded, humid parts of the forest. Successful foraging depends on recent rain, suitable temperature, and careful identification of species.
