Slovakia to Introduce Performance‑Based Funding for Secondary Schools

The Slovak Ministry of Education announced plans to adopt a performance‑based funding system for secondary schools. A draft law is currently moving through the legislative process. The scheme will establish performance contracts that define schools' quality‑development obligations and link financial resources to measurable results. In the first phase, around 40 schools—including gymnasia, vocational and industrial institutions—will be covered, with contracts expected to become effective by 2028. The Ministry will develop detailed criteria and indicators in cooperation with trade unions and professional bodies to reflect the needs of schools, employers and modern educational trends.
