Slovakia to open new D1 highway section near Ružomberok
A new 15-kilometer section of the D1 highway between Hubová and Ivachnová in Slovakia is scheduled to open to motorists on October 5. The project includes 19 bridges, three intersections, and the 3.6-kilometer Čebrať tunnel.
According to the Ministry of Transport and the National Highway Company (NDS), the opening will be preceded by a public day on October 3. Final preparations involve completing signage, landscaping, and cleaning the roadway and drainage systems. A brief nighttime closure of the existing D1 section near Ivachnová is planned for the night of September 26 to 27 to facilitate the connection.
The new stretch is expected to save drivers several dozen minutes during peak hours and reduce transit traffic, noise, and smog in the Ružomberok area. Following the opening, NDS will conduct technical and biological reclamation of the construction sites and repair local roads used during the build.
