Slovakia to reduce maximum solar energy subsidies

The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) is introducing significant changes to the ‘Green Solidarity’ project, which provides state aid to low-income households facing energy poverty.

Under the new rules, the maximum subsidy for photovoltaic panels will decrease substantially. Previously, eligible households could receive up to 6,300 EUR for systems up to 7 kW; however, the new maximum support will be capped at 1,800 EUR for systems with a maximum supported capacity of 2 kW. SIEA stated this change aims to support photovoltaic capacities that households can realistically utilize.

While solar support is being reduced, subsidies for other renewable technologies will increase. Specifically, households opting for biomass boilers will receive higher financial contributions than under the previous regulations, as the agency seeks to redistribute funds toward technologies that directly reduce CO2 emissions during heating.
