Slovakia to see partial solar eclipse on 12 August 2026
A partial solar eclipse will occur on 12 August 2026, visible across Europe. In Slovakia only the first phase will be observable before sunset, with the western part of the country offering the best conditions.
In Bratislava the eclipse will start around 19:22 local time, with the Sun setting at about 20:11. At sunset roughly 83 % of the solar disc will be covered. In Banská Bystrica the coverage will be about 67 % and in Košice about 61 %. The deeper the eclipse, the later the Sun goes below the horizon, so the most dramatic darkening will happen after sunset when the Sun is already below the western horizon.
Observers are advised to use proper solar‑filter glasses and to have an unobstructed view of the western horizon. The event will not produce a total darkness, but the partial cover will noticeably dim evening light depending on local weather and terrain.
