Slovakia’s Danube low water reveals suspected WWII bomb near Virt

A drop in the Danube’s water level near the village of Virt in Slovakia exposed an object that appears to be a bomb from the Second World War. Police from the Bátorove Kosihy district responded, secured the site and halted river traffic in the area. A police pyrotechnician from the Nitra rapid‑response unit and a specialist team from the Criminalist‑Expert Institute of the Police Headquarters in Bratislava were dispatched to assess and identify the object. Authorities warned the public not to touch the item, to report any finds to the police, and confirmed that navigation on this stretch of the Danube will remain suspended until the suspected munition is safely removed.
