Slovakia's energy debate deepens as officials dismiss wind farms and Greenpeace pushes renewable decentralisation

Branislav Strýček, the chief executive of Slovenské elektrárne, told Denník N that Slovakia has very few viable sites and negligible wind potential, making the country unsuitable for large‑scale wind farms. He questioned the EU’s pressure to build turbines and voiced support for local resistance to wind projects.

Greenpeace Slovakia warned that recent cyber‑attacks linked to Russian hackers exposed the vulnerability of the nation’s centralized power grid. The organisation urged Prime Minister Robert Fico to incorporate decentralised renewable energy and community‑scale generation into national security strategy, arguing that such sources would improve resilience against both cyber and military threats and reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels.
