Slovakia's EV market now offers over 450 passenger models as prices stay above ICE cars

A joint study by the International Council on Clean Transportation and the Fraunhofer Institute found that battery costs for electric cars fell roughly 30 % between 2020 and 2025, yet the average catalog price of electric vehicles in Germany rose from about €37,000 to €53,000. The price increase is attributed to a shift toward larger, higher‑spec models rather than higher unit costs, leaving EVs still more expensive than comparable gasoline cars.

In Slovakia, the range of electric vehicle models has expanded dramatically. The market now lists more than 630 EVs of all types, including 450 passenger cars. In the past eight months, 60 new models appeared, bringing the total to 181 distinct variants when versions are aggregated. Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, Leapmotor, JAC, and XPeng contributed heavily to the growth, adding ten new models collectively.
