Slovakia's QR payment system surpasses €6.5 million in transactions

The Slovak Financial Administration reported that its QR‑code payment system processed over 83,000 transactions worth almost €3.5 million in June. By early July the cumulative volume reached nearly €6.5 million.

On 3 July, a new daily record was set with 3,522 payments amounting to €204 000, breaking the previous high of €188 000 recorded on 19 June. Spokesperson Daniel Kováč said usage is rising even during holidays, driven by small traders, market vendors and service providers who prefer the state‑run QR solution.

The system, available through the free Virtual Register Cash Register 2 (VRP2) app, offers a legislatively guaranteed fee‑free notification regime. Banks will not charge for payment notifications until the end of 2027, allowing businesses to receive real‑time payment confirmations without added cost.
