Slovenia adopts fuel price mitigation measures for transport and agriculture
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS) has welcomed the adoption of the Act on Temporary Measures to Protect Food and Transport Supply against High Fuel Prices. The legislation aims to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs on road transporters, farmers, foresters, fishermen, beekeepers, and mariculture practitioners.
Key provisions include assistance for purchasing diesel fuel and heating oil, as well as subsidies for energy-efficient tires. These measures are intended to maintain the competitiveness of Slovenian transport and agricultural sectors and ensure the stability of supply chains. The GZS noted that fuel costs can represent up to 30 percent of transport costs, and over 90 percent of Slovenia's goods exchange depends on road transport.
The implementation of the support is subject to approval from the European Commission. The GZS highlighted that the diesel fuel assistance will particularly benefit small and medium-sized enterprises by preventing the full transfer of additional costs to consumers, while the tire subsidies are expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
