Prime Minister Janez Janša emphasized that food security is a matter of “national survival and strategic infrastructure,” calling for the removal of bureaucratic obstacles regarding irrigation and more flexible regulations. By late August, diesel prices exceeded €1.50 per litre. Podgoršek expressed concern that the €8.1 million aid package is insufficient and noted a competitive disadvantage compared to Croatia. In early September, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy proposed an intervention law to provide fuel and tire subsidies for farmers and road transporters. Minister Jernej Vrtovec stated the goal is to mitigate rising costs at the beginning of the supply chain to prevent price increases for consumers. Funding is expected to be drawn from the state-owned company Borzen and EU sources. By mid-September, the National Assembly held an extraordinary session to consider legislative changes, including reducing the excise tax on heating oil from 157.50 to 42 euros per 1,000 liters.
