Slovenia and Germany strengthen partnership during ministerial visit
Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met in Ljubljana to strengthen bilateral cooperation and discuss key European security issues. The ministers emphasized the importance of the Slovenia-Germany partnership in areas such as defense industry, artificial intelligence, robotics, digitalization, and space technologies.
Discussions covered the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and EU enlargement. Both officials reaffirmed their support for Ukraine against Russian aggression and stressed that NATO cooperation remains vital for European security. Wadephul warned that the systematic use of vetoes weakens the European Union and called for greater unity to prevent division by external actors.
The meeting also addressed the recent Slovenian blockade of a joint EU statement regarding Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, highlighting potential tensions in shaping a unified European foreign policy.
