Slovenia announces agricultural aid and strategic reforms at AGRA fair

At the 64th AGRA international agricultural and food fair in Gornja Radgona, Slovenian leadership outlined new support measures and strategic goals for the nation's farming sector.

Minister Janez Cigler Kralj announced 8.1 million euros in new aid to help farmers cope with high energy and fertilizer costs. This includes 5.4 million euros from the state budget and 2.7 million euros from European funds. Additionally, 8.45 million euros will be paid out in August to assist with the consequences of last year's drought, bringing total drought-related aid to over 16 million euros.

Prime Minister Janez Janša emphasized that food security is a matter of national survival and strategic infrastructure. He called for the removal of bureaucratic obstacles, specifically regarding the installation of irrigation systems, and urged for more flexible regulations, such as nitrate rules, to better reflect actual weather conditions. Janša also highlighted the importance of attracting younger generations to farming to ensure long-term stability.
