Slovenia closes electric‑vehicle subsidy program as funds run out

The Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy announced that the public call for electric‑vehicle purchase subsidies, launched on 12 May, will be closed shortly because the allocated climate‑fund resources have been fully spent. The call attracted 3,105 individual applications requesting €19.58 million and 1,125 business applications requesting €6.39 million, reaching the €25.6 million limit for private buyers and €8 million for enterprises.

All money from the national climate fund has been used, and no further European Union funding will be available for a new round in the near term. The ministry expects the remaining funds to be exhausted in the second half of August and said it cannot yet define the conditions for any future public calls. Responsibility for the scheme was transferred to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy after a reorganisation of the state administration.

The closure leaves prospective electric‑vehicle buyers without state support, prompting concerns among consumers about the affordability of EVs without subsidies.
