Slovenia declares nationwide fire hazard amid heatwave

Slovenia's Administration for Protection and Rescue announced a large fire‑risk status for the entire country, citing prolonged dry and hot weather and insufficient rainfall for at least the next ten days. During this period, burning, bonfires, fireworks, discarding flammable materials, and any activity that could start a fire are prohibited. The Inspection for Protection against Natural and Other Disasters and police will enforce stricter monitoring.

Temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 30 °C, and several fires have already occurred. On Tuesday morning a blaze near Slovenska Bistrica in the remote village of Jurišna (near the Rim quarry) burned about 3.5 ha before firefighters contained it. Another fire on the slope of Trstel in the Nova Gorica municipality covered roughly 1,600 m² and was extinguished with water and digging. Residents are urged to attempt to extinguish small fires and call the emergency number 112 if needed.
