Slovenia proposes financial aid for farmers and foresters
The Slovenian government has proposed new legislation and decrees to provide financial relief to the agricultural, forestry, and fishing sectors following a season marked by extreme weather and high costs.
Under the proposed law, eligible recipients—including farmers, beekeepers, forest owners, fishermen, and mariculture practitioners—can seek reimbursement for fuel costs. This includes heating oil and fuel used for agricultural and forestry machinery. To claim these reimbursements, holders must provide proof of purchase, such as receipts showing the date and quantity of fuel bought between June 4 and the end of the year.
Additionally, an €8.1 million emergency aid package is proposed to mitigate the impact of high energy and fertilizer prices caused by international market volatility. The measures also include social security relief: if a farm's income loss is estimated between 30% and 80%, social security contributions may be reduced proportionally; if losses exceed 80%, a full waiver of contributions is possible. These initiatives aim to alleviate financial pressure and support continued production despite recent droughts and economic instability.
