Slovenia proposes fuel and tire subsidies for farmers and transporters

The Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has proposed an intervention law to provide financial relief to farmers and road transporters facing high costs due to the energy crisis. The proposal includes subsidies for the purchase of fuel and tires.

Minister Jernej Vrtovec stated that the goal is to mitigate rising costs at the beginning of the supply chain to prevent price increases for consumers of goods and vegetables. An estimated 40 million euros per year would be required for a fuel subsidy of 20 cents per liter, which could save a transporter 10,000 euros for every 50,000 liters consumed.

Funding for these measures is expected to be drawn from the state-owned company Borzen, which has accumulated approximately 450 million euros through utility bills, as well as from European Union financing sources. If adopted, the measure would apply to fuel invoices issued in Slovenia for entities registered in the country, covering the period from June 4 until the end of the year.
