Slovenia sees record EV sales amid depleting subsidies

Slovenia is experiencing a record surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales, with July registrations reaching approximately 1,520 battery electric vehicles—nearly triple the amount from the previous year. EVs accounted for nearly a quarter of all new vehicle sales in July, a significant increase from the previous year when their market share was below ten percent.

However, this growth coincides with a depletion of available subsidies. Borzen has indicated that funds for the current public call (SUB-EV26) are nearly exhausted, with 25.6 million euros allocated for individuals and 8 million euros for legal entities. The exhaustion of these funds, partly due to the conclusion of the European Recovery and Resilience Plan funding, leaves many buyers who have already ordered vehicles in uncertainty.

Dr. Slavko Ažman of Porsche Slovenija warned that the market remains fragile and that uncertainty regarding state support could lead to order cancellations. Future support will depend on a new climate fund spending program expected to be addressed by the government in the autumn.
