Slovenia sees surge in camping tourism and regional cultural investment
Camping tourism in Slovenia has seen significant growth, with the number of overnight stays doubling over a 15-year period. According to statistical data, overnight stays rose from 1.25 million in 2010 to over 2.5 million last year. This increase is primarily driven by foreign tourists, whose overnight stays nearly tripled from 657,000 in 2010 to 1.9 million recently. Domestic tourists have remained relatively stable at approximately 600,000 stays annually.
Foreign visitors account for three-quarters of all camping stays, with the majority originating from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Italy. German tourists represent one-third of all foreign camping stays. The industry remains highly seasonal, with 80 percent of stays occurring between June and September.
In the city of Celje, tourism is also experiencing a surge. During July and August, the city hosted nearly 9,700 guests, generating over 18,000 overnight stays, a 24 percent increase compared to the previous summer. To build on this momentum, the Zavod Celeia Celje has secured over 425,000 euros in funding to develop immersive cultural heritage experiences using digital technology, including 3D animations and residential programs for international artists.
