Slovenia to implement section speed enforcement on major highways

Dars, the Slovenian motorway operator, has announced that section speed measurement systems are expected to become operational by September. The project involves installing infrastructure to calculate a vehicle's average speed over specific stretches of highway rather than measuring instantaneous speed at a single point.

The system will be implemented at four key locations: the Primorska highway between Logatec and Vrhnika (towards Ljubljana), the Dolenjska highway at the Višnjegora slope (towards Novo mesto), the Gorenjska highway between Ljubljana Brod and Vodice (towards Kranj), and the Štajerska highway at the Trojane tunnels (towards Maribor).

While Dars has completed the technical installation, software, and communication infrastructure, final steps involving the police and metrological certifications are required. The primary objective of the system is to improve road safety and calm traffic speeds by preventing drivers from slowing down only immediately before traditional radar cameras.
