Slovenian Alpine Lakes and Upper River Trails Attract Families

The Lovrenšek Lakes area on the Rogla plateau rises to about 1,500 m and features a network of 11‑22 small alpine ponds, wooden boardwalks over peatland, and a viewpoint tower offering panoramic scenery. A marked 5 km circular trail, suitable for children, climbs roughly 270 m and takes three to four hours to complete, with opportunities to observe mosses, rare plants and wildlife.

Further downstream, the upper course of the Ljubljanica River near Vrhnika provides a motor‑free waterway protected under the Natura 2000 network. Local outfitters rent canoes (≈ 20 EUR/h) and stand‑up paddleboards (≈ 15 EUR/h) for quiet paddling amid clear water, abundant bird song and visible underwater habitats. The route is flat, allowing paddlers to glide as if on a lake, and informational signs guide visitors. Both sites are promoted as family‑friendly outdoor experiences that showcase Slovenia’s natural heritage.
