Slovenian mother and son discovered dead after mountain accident in Italy's Bovec Lakes

Hikers on Monday evening discovered the bodies of a 49‑year‑old Slovenian woman and her son in the Bovec (Fusine) Lakes area of the Italian Alps. The victims, identified as residents of Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, were found about 50 metres apart in a dry streambed north of the upper Fusine Lake.

Investigators from the Carabinieri in Tarvisio believe the pair likely died on 23 June when heavy rain caused a sudden swelling of a mountain stream that swept them away. A parked car with Slovenian registration and a parking ticket dated 23 June was later located near the lake. No evidence of foul play has been found, and an autopsy is pending to confirm the exact cause of death. The Slovenian police are cooperating with their Italian counterparts, but the victims had not been reported missing in Slovenia.
