Slovenian MP Katja Kokot posts provocative summer photo, attacks left‑leaning media

On 21 July 2026, Katja Kokot, a member of the Slovenian parliament for the Resnica party, posted a photograph on X showing herself in a summer outfit with a palm‑leaf pose. She added the caption, “You lack fresh pictures for headlines about me… here’s a fresh one for tomorrow or the day after.”

The post came amid several months of intense coverage by left‑leaning Slovene outlets, which had highlighted her partner’s parliamentary job, a house‑building project, her past work at an animal shelter in Maribor and her criticism of media and political opponents. Kokot said the picture was a deliberate response to criticism from journalist Marko Crnkovič in the magazine Reporter and accused the media of shaping a negative image of her. Several outlets described the image as “provocative” and “inappropriate,” while Kokot framed it as a rebuttal to perceived bias.

The incident illustrates ongoing tensions between Kokot and portions of the Slovene press, with the MP accusing left‑wing journalists of selective reporting and the media questioning the propriety of her self‑promotion.
