Zoran Stevanović faces petition for resignation in Slovenia
A political petition calling for the resignation of Zoran Stevanović, President of the Slovenian National Assembly, has faced significant disruption. Initiated by Miha Brejc, a former SDS member and minister, the online campaign gathered over 64,000 signatures, surpassing the vote count received by the Resnica party in recent elections.
However, the online collection process was halted after organizers detected thousands of invalid entries, including signatures from locations such as India and Israel, as well as humorous entries using names like 'Donald Trump', 'Vladimir Putin', and 'Mickey Mouse'. Brejc stated that the online form was withdrawn due to these irregularities and intends to pursue traditional physical signature collection with the help of political parties.
Stevanović has dismissed the petition and calls for a consultative referendum as a “farce” and “mockery,” asserting that the National Assembly is led legally and constitutionally. He maintains that the leadership of the assembly will continue until his term ends in April 2030.
