In late August, a resignation petition launched by former minister Miha Brejc gathered over 64,000 signatures before being halted due to thousands of invalid entries, including names like ‘Donald Trump’ and ‘Mickey Mouse’. Stevanović dismissed the effort as a “farce” and “mockery,” asserting his term continues until April 2030. The petition lost further credibility when the Information Commissioner halted it for violating personal data laws. Parliamentary group leader Jelka Godec criticized the campaign as an attempt to create a “false impression of a mass uprising.” Amidst this, Mediana polling showed Stevanović’s Resnica party saw a slight increase in support to 4 percent.

In early September, new revelations emerged regarding Stevanović’s criminal record. Documents from the District Court in Kranj revealed at least three final criminal convictions, including a 2011 conviction for fraud involving a victim while Stevanović was a police officer. He was also previously convicted of endangering security and attempted insurance fraud. His office declined to comment, stating they will not discuss “old, closed, and deleted matters” unrelated to his current role.

By September 6, further details emerged regarding the 2011 fraud conviction. It was reported that Stevanović received a six-month suspended prison term after obtaining a 2,500 euro loan under false pretenses. This conviction had previously been removed from his criminal records.
