Slovenian police charge Kranj explosion suspects, report crimes

Between late December 2025 and early January 2026, the Police Administration of Kranj received more than 50 emergency calls after youths used pyrotechnic and explosive devices on the Planina area. Investigations identified a 19‑year‑old man, two minors and later a 51‑year‑old man suspected of possessing nearly 600 illegal explosive items, including professional‑grade material. The suspects are charged with creating general danger, damaging public infrastructure—such as an asphalt playground, benches, and a sanitary cabin—and illegal production and trade of explosives, causing tens of thousands of euros in damage.

A broader police report from the Koroška region detailed 61 crime‑related calls, 102 traffic‑safety incidents and 63 public‑order reports over three days. Notable events included three serious traffic accidents that seriously injured cyclists and a passenger, multiple thefts of equipment and cash from buildings and vehicles, a workplace accident injuring a truck driver, a fuel theft of about 900 liters from a tanker, and a fraud case involving a motorhome purchase through a German website. Police are pursuing prosecutions for negligence, burglary, theft and other offences linked to these incidents.
