Vietnam police fine youth and others for illegal license‑plate tampering
Police in Thanh Hóa Province fined a 26‑million‑dong (about $1,100) penalty and deducted 10 driving‑license points from a young driver who covered the VinFast VF6 licence plate with black tape to alter the characters and avoid traffic‑camera detection. The driver, identified as N.N.L. of Hạc Thành ward, admitted the act during the investigation.
In Bac Ninh Province, traffic police used an AI‑based camera system to detect a driver who had attached a counterfeit licence plate to another VinFast VF6 in order to evade automated enforcement. The offender was stopped on 21 June, confessed to buying the fake plate online, and faces the same maximum fine of 26 million dong, a 10‑point licence deduction and possible vehicle seizure.
Both cases illustrate a wider crackdown on licence‑plate falsification in Vietnam, with authorities employing surveillance technology and imposing strict penalties to deter attempts to circumvent traffic monitoring.
