Smart #1 to adopt 800V battery architecture for faster charging
Smart has announced a significant technical update for its #1 electric SUV, transitioning from a 400V to an 800V electrical architecture. This upgrade, utilizing Geely’s new ‘Shield Gold Brick’ battery, is expected to reduce charging times from 10% to 80% to just 12 minutes under optimal conditions, down from the current 30 minutes.
The new battery is designed to withstand up to 3,500 charging cycles. Additionally, the vehicle will adopt the EEA 4.0 electronic architecture, which uses artificial intelligence to synchronize various control systems, including the battery and suspension.
Interior and technology enhancements include a larger 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a new AI-powered voice assistant, and improved driver assistance systems through new external sensors. While the exterior design remains largely unchanged, new options include an extended roof spoiler, 19-inch wheels, and specific two-tone color schemes. The updated model will be available in China starting August 6 and will be showcased at the 2026 Paris Motor Show.
