Smart #2 electric city car enters final testing ahead of 2026 Paris debut

Smart #2, the new two‑seat electric city car from the Smart brand, has moved into its final testing phase. The vehicle is undergoing extensive on‑road and climate trials to validate handling, ride comfort, and body rigidity. Design work is led by the global Mercedes‑Benz design team, while engineering verification is performed by Smart’s development centre.

Tests include wet and slippery surfaces, rapid lane changes, obstacle avoidance, wind‑tunnel runs, acoustic chambers and durability simulations on rough pavement, speed bumps and curbs. The updated Tridion safety cell meets modern crash standards. Power comes from a rear‑mounted electric motor paired with a 35.7 kWh battery, offering up to 300 km WLTP range and fast charging from 10 % to 80 % in about 20 minutes. Production is slated for the October 2026 Paris Motor Show, where Smart will also unveil a second model, the #6, as part of its expansion strategy. The car is jointly owned 50 % by Mercedes‑Benz and Geely, targeting European city markets with a premium, ultra‑compact footprint.
