Smart #2 electric city car enters global testing before Paris Motor Show debut

Mercedes‑Benz and Geely’s Smart brand is conducting worldwide pre‑production road testing of its new electric city car, the Smart #2. The prototypes are fitted with a black‑and‑white camouflage livery and are being evaluated on urban agility, including obstacle avoidance, emergency lane changes and low‑grip wet‑road handling. Extensive noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) validation is performed in wind tunnels, acoustic chambers and temperature‑controlled rigs, covering wind and road noise, power‑train and thermal NVH, squeak‑and‑rattle and sound‑quality optimisation. Engineers are also testing tire compounds on rough asphalt, grooved concrete and high‑speed straights to balance low rolling resistance with noise reduction, and are subjecting the vehicles to durability trials on bumpy roads, curb strikes and deep potholes. The programme aims to ensure the Smart #2 delivers urban agility, driving stability, refined NVH characteristics and uncompromising safety. The car is slated to make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October; there are currently no plans to launch the model in the United States.
